Let’s talk about manifesting.
I know, the word gets tossed around a lot, and depending on the circle, it either makes people roll their eyes or whip out their vision boards. But hear me out, because I’m not talking about sitting in a meditation pose and hoping the universe delivers you a beach house, a six-figure bank account, or your dream guy.
I’m talking about the real kind of manifesting. The kind that has a little magic, yes—but it’s mostly movement. The kind where you don’t just picture the finish line… you picture the sweat, the setbacks, the small wins, the daily work. Because my friend, that’s where the real power is.
Let’s dive into it.
The Fantasy Trap: Picturing the End Without the Middle
I used to think manifesting meant closing my eyes and imagining the thing I wanted most—like seeing myself in the dream house with the wraparound porch and cozy office, or walking into a boutique that I owned, styled head to toe, greeting customers like a boss. And don’t get me wrong, those images were powerful. They lit a fire in me.
But what I didn’t realize back then was that skipping over the middle—the real steps that take you from where you are to where you want to be—was keeping me stuck. It’s like trying to drive somewhere you’ve never been without directions. You’re just hoping the vibes will get you there.
Spoiler alert: in my experience, they won’t.
The universe loves clarity. So if you want to work with it, you can’t just ask for a destination. You’ve got to draw the dang map.
Real Manifestation Is Like GPS: You Need the Step-By-Step
“In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” -Proverbs 16:9
When we only picture the end result, we don’t plan. We don’t count the cost—financially, emotionally, mentally. And sometimes, we even end up manifesting things we don’t actually want because we didn’t really think it through. We don’t prepare for the potholes and detours.
And when those inevitable bumps come up, we’re shocked. We think, “Wait, I thought I wanted this! Why is it so hard? Why isn’t it working?”
But if you had visualized the whole journey—not just the glittering end—you’d recognize the hard stuff as part of the process, not as a sign to quit.
Here’s what I started doing differently (and it changed everything):
Instead of just picturing the “after” version of my goal, I started picturing the version of me who gets there.
What does she do in the morning?
What habits does she have?
What kinds of decisions does she make?
What sacrifices has she made along the way?
I started manifesting the work.
A Real-Life Example: When I Expanded My Salon and Added a Boutique
Let me take you back to when I made the decision to expand my salon and open a boutique inside.
The vision was beautiful. I could see it so clearly—clients browsing curated racks of clothing after getting their hair done, the energy elevated, the space feeling more me than ever before. I pictured the first day we opened, the scent of new product lines, the soft lighting, the shelves perfectly styled.
But when I finally got serious about making it happen, I realized that just dreaming about the final product wasn’t enough. I needed to mentally walk through every gritty detail of what that dream actually required.
So I started visualizing the hard stuff:
- Touring potential spaces and running numbers that made my stomach drop
- Meeting with contractors and having opinions about lighting layouts and outlets
- Staying up late researching brands, building vendor relationships, and learning retail systems I knew nothing about
- Managing my team through the transition while doubting if I could handle being both visionary and grounded leader
- Dealing with delays, decisions, overwhelm—and then showing up the next morning to do it all again
That’s the part people don’t see when they compliment the aesthetic or say, “You’re living the dream!” Yes, I am—but that dream is built on a hundred tiny steps, not just one big leap.
And when I look back, I swear, the parts of the journey I visualized in advance—the hard conversations, the problem-solving, the daily showing up—those are the parts that actually helped me get there. Because I wasn’t surprised by the effort. I had seen myself doing it.
That’s the real magic.
What Happens When You Picture the Work?
Here’s the magic sauce that most manifesting advice skips:
When you picture the work, a few amazing things happen:
- You get honest about the timeline.
You stop expecting overnight success. You start making peace with the slow burn. - You build emotional resilience.
You’re not thrown off when things get hard because you expected the hard. It’s not failure—it’s part of the forecast. - You become the kind of person who can actually hold the blessing.
Let that sink in. Sometimes we want things we’re not ready to carry. But the work makes you stronger. It makes you capable. - You develop a plan (instead of a wish).
Goals become checklists. Big dreams become bite-sized actions. You gain momentum.
So How Do You Do It?
Let’s make this practical. You know I love a good action step.
Here’s how I’ve started manifesting differently, and how you can too:
1. Start With the Vision (Yes, Still!)
Picture the end result in all its juicy detail. How does it feel, smell, look, taste? Let yourself fully go there. Feel the gratitude of it already being true.
2. Reverse Engineer the Steps
Now rewind the movie. Ask yourself: What would I have had to do to get there?
This is where you start seeing:
- The learning you’ll need to do
- The time you’ll need to carve out
- The habits that need upgrading
- The conversations you’ll need to have
- The parts of yourself you’ll need to grow
Expert tip: Use ChatGPT to help brainstorm the action steps if you don’t know where to start.
Write them down. These are your stepping stones.
3. Visualize the Daily Work
Now, instead of just picturing the dream home or the booked-out calendar or the bank account, start picturing your daily routines.
What are you doing on a Tuesday afternoon?
What are you saying “no” to?
What kind of decisions are you making at the grocery store, in your inbox, in your friendships?
This is where it gets powerful.
4. Make It Emotional
When you imagine doing the work—feel it. Feel the pride of keeping a promise to yourself. Feel the discipline. Feel the discomfort. Feel the growth. Feel the joy of small wins.
This rewires your brain. It builds the identity of a person who does what they said they would.
5. Check In Often
Manifesting isn’t a one-time visualization session. It’s an ongoing alignment. Ask yourself weekly:
- Is what I’m doing lining up with what I said I wanted?
- Am I being honest about the work this takes?
- Am I romanticizing the result but resisting the process?
A Final Word From Your Hype Woman
Look, I love a good vision board. I believe in the magic of the universe. I believe in alignment, energy, divine timing, and all that good stuff.
But I also believe in you—and your ability to show up, get real, and do the work.
Manifesting isn’t about sitting pretty and waiting.
It’s about becoming.
Becoming the woman who gets there.
Becoming the woman who can carry what she’s asking for.
Becoming the woman who can look back and say: “I saw this coming. I worked for this. I built it, one step at a time.”
So go ahead and dream big. Picture it all.
But don’t stop at the finish line. Picture the first step, the second step, the tenth late-night work session, the hard conversations, the moments of doubt and the moments of clarity.
That’s where the real manifesting happens.
And that’s where I’ll be too—right beside you.
Love you always,
Kendra
