Ladies, let me tell you about the end of 2022. It came in hot, delivering one message after another: “Girl, it’s time to take care of YOU.” The universe practically yelled at me to stop, refocus, and learn to be a little selfish for once. And not the kind of selfish where you feel guilty about it—but the kind where you know it’s necessary.
So I listened.
I tackled all the things I’d been avoiding—those appointments, those inner conversations, and the big task of being honest with myself. I leaned heavily into therapy and coaching, and I decided that the negativity from others? Not my circus, not my monkeys. I made it my mission to stay unbothered by those trying to dim my light. And you know what? My marriage flourished. My kids thrived. My business leveled up.
I won’t lie to you—it was exhausting. Pouring your heart, soul, and every ounce of intention into laying the foundation for your life is hard work. But here’s what I’ve learned: those tough seasons? They’re the ones where the magic happens. Every time I feel like I’m drowning, I later realize it’s just the universe teaching me to swim better.
Would I prefer not to feel like I’m gasping for air? Absolutely. But I’d take the struggle—and the growth that comes with it—over staying stagnant any day.
Here’s what makes me furious: nobody told me when I was a kid that love isn’t earned.
Let me say it louder for the people in the back: Love. Isn’t. Earned.
You are enough, exactly as you are. You don’t have to twist yourself into knots to make people like you. And if someone doesn’t accept you? They’re not your people. Plain and simple.
I wish someone had told me that other people’s inability to manage their emotions isn’t my burden to carry. It took me way too long to learn these lessons, but you better believe I’m going to repeat them to my kids until the day I die.
Growing up, my parents loved me. They even admired me in their own way. But they didn’t really like me or understand me. And honestly? That’s okay. I’ve come to this quiet realization that it’s because I didn’t need them. Sure, they had more years on this earth, but I’ve always had an older soul.
If you’re not already in therapy or doing the work to unpack all the toxic beliefs and patterns you’ve picked up over the years, here’s your sign. Start now. The world is shifting, and if you don’t do the work, you’re going to wake up one day wondering why everything feels so out of place.
I’m endlessly thankful for the friends, mentors, and guides who hold space for me when I need it most. And I’m equally grateful for the people who give me the grace to stumble and learn along the way.
Here’s what I know for sure: Life is full of opportunities to evolve, but only if you have the courage to embrace them.
And in case you need a reminder, as Luke 14:11 so beautifully says:
“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
The tears you cry today? They’re watering the seeds you’ve been planting. And when the time is right, you’ll celebrate the most beautiful harvest.
So here’s to growth, grace, and gratitude.
Warmly,
Kendra
