Let’s talk about something that’s been swirling in my head lately. Women through history—those wild, brilliant, complex beings—are often labeled as “misunderstood.” And it makes sense, right? I feel like the deepest ache in so many of us is the fear of being misunderstood. Of showing up as who we are—messy, real, layered—and having someone decide that they can’t, or won’t, see us for what’s true.
I speak to women every day, and this comes up so often. There’s this core longing in us: to be known. Like, fully known. Because we’ve somehow learned that to be truly loved, we have to be understood. When people miss us—when they deliberately twist or shrink who we are—it cuts deep.
Here’s the thing, though. It’s not just us. This feeling has echoed through centuries. We’re in good company with the women who have been paving their own way, who’ve been told they were “too much” or “too little” or just plain wrong. The Cate Blanchett quote keeps coming to mind: “The women who really change the game are always the women that no one knows what to do with initially.”
Think about that. Game-changers aren’t the ones who fit neatly into expectations. They’re the ones who make people uncomfortable because they won’t play small. Women who rewrite the rules always feel misunderstood at first. And yes, that includes you.
So, let me tell you something I don’t think we say enough: I see you. I see you carving your own path, even when it’s hard. I see you doing what feels true to your soul, even when it doesn’t look like what everyone else is doing. I see you sharing your light—whether it’s on Instagram, in your work, in the way you love your people.
And even if the universe has been throwing you curveballs lately, I pray it’s also showing you moments of kindness and beauty. Because here’s what I know: The life you’re building, the one that feels aligned with who you really are, is the most beautiful thing you could ever do.
Sometimes, I imagine this journey feels lonely. Like you’re the only one walking this weird, winding path. But isn’t it lonelier to live a life that doesn’t match who you are? That’s the real trap—shrinking ourselves into something palatable so we’re easier to understand.
You’re not alone, babe. There’s this whole lineage of women who’ve done hard, bold, misunderstood things—and come out stronger for it. You’re part of that legacy. And just so you know? You’ve been this amazing, magnetic, complex person all along.
Thank you for being you. For reminding us that the world is still full of wonder and beauty. And for daring to keep showing up.
Love,
Kendra
P.S. To anyone who doesn’t get you? That’s their problem, not yours. They’ll catch up eventually. Or maybe they won’t. Either way, you’ll keep shining. ❤️
